Saturday May 11th 2019
Hammon Park, Water Street Creswick, Victoria
New info on the 2019 version to come soon.
After taking an unexpected break in 2017 the Brackenbury MTB challenge, hosted by the VOGA Cycle club returns in
May 2018 to the township of Creswick, just 10 minutes north of Ballarat in Victoria’s west.
Big things are happening in Creswick over the next 18 months with a $2.54m, 120km MTB trail network set to start
construction in early 2018 and the Brackenbury MTB Challenge will give you a taste of the great things to come.
Held over 2 days, we truly do have something for everyone. Starting with a womens-only MTB skills session on
Saturday May 12 we have 2 accredited MTB coaches to get you feeling more confident on the bike. We have 2
categories - Beginner and Intermediate.
The beginner group assumes you can ride a bike…...and that’s about it. It really is about taking you from the pavement
to the gravel. Nothing to technical or tricky, just build the confidence on the dirt. By the end of the session we reckon
you’ll be enjoying some entry-level single track.
Intermediate - this is for the girls who have ridden single track before, but want to know how to do it a bit better.
Spaces a strictly limited and you must pre-register. There is just 10 places per group, you choose which best suits you.
Our thanks to Cazz from BikeItBetter, Richard from Flow Motion MTB, RACV Goldfields and MTBA for making this
Junior Brackenbury - This was so popular in 2016, we’ve given it its own day this time around. Held on the awesome
trails of the RACV Goldfields resort, this is a 6km loop open to all our junior riders (u/15). It’s still a challenge though,
with some great downhill and tough uphill, you’ll need to make sure you had your weetbix! We’ve given it prime time on
Saturday, with racing due to start at 1.30pm, which gives mum and dad plenty of time to drive up in the morning.
Pre-registration is a must, we won’t be taking entries on the day and you will need a MTBA licence or day licence.
Saturday CX - This is for all the CX’ers who, let's face it, probably want to double up and race on the sunday as well.
Held at the RACV Goldfields resort, this will be a straight-up scratch race with no categories, no divisions. Just mens
and womens. CX is popular amongst the VOGA members, so we like to create a challenging course. Held in the late
afternoon, you’ll finish in time to go have a shower and head into one of the pubs or restaurants in Creswick for a meal.
Yep, you guessed - you need to pre-register. No entries on the day.
Brackenbury MTB challenge and Gravel Grind
For the MTB’ers you have 3 options: 1, 2 or 3 laps which equates to (about) 20km, 40km or 60km. For the gravel
grinders, you’ll be riding exactly the same course, with only 1 lap required.
Starting from Hammon Park you’ll head into the hills around Creswick. You’ll pass through native forest, around lakes,
through pine plantations and see some pretty damn good views from the top of the races’ namesake, Brackenbury Hill.
We don’t need to say this, but will to be extra sure - you need to pre register, no on the day entries accepted.
VOGA really wants to make sure this event grows, but remain grassroots. That’s why we have expanded the options
available, but not the price. But we are going to help you out even more to make the decision to enter early (you have
no idea how much this helps with our planning!).
Here’s a code for you: VOGA10. Enter this to get an early bird discount of 10% off the entry costs.
